Statement of Faith

McGeorge Family Statement of Faith

  1. Of the Scriptures
I believe the Holy Scriptures are the verbal and plenarily inspired word of God. They are inerrant and Infallible. The only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. The scriptures are to be interpreted literally according to their normal, historical and grammatical meaning.

    1. I believe the King James Version of the Bible is the preserved Word of God for the English speaking people
    2. By “The Holy Bible” I mean the collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, which, as originally written does not only contain and convey the Word of God, but IS the very Word of God.
    3. By “inspiration” I mean the books of the Bible were written by holy men of old, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, in such a definite way their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired and free from error, as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inspired.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

  2. Of the True God
I believe there is one, living and true God, existing in 3 persons the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, equal in being, nature, power and Glory having the same attributes and perfections

Ex 34:6-7 The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,

Deut 6:4 The LORD our God is one LORD

Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

1Jo 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

  3. Of the Holy Spirit
    I believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person; equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature;

    1. He was active in the creation; Gen 1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
    2. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment; Joh 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
    3. He is the agent in the New Birth; He seals, endues, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer.

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

  4. Of the Devil, or Satan
I believe Satan is a person who fell through pride and ambition to be as God. He is the author of Sin and cause of the fall of man. He is the open and declared enemy of God and Man, to be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire, with his angels.

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

  5. Of Creation
I believe in the Genesis account of creation, and it is to be accepted literally, as 6 literal 24-hour periods. I reject evolution, the gap theory, the day age theory, and theistic evolution as unscriptural theories of origin.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

  6. Of the Fall of Man
I believe man was created in image and likeness of God, but by the sin of Adam the human race fell, And inherited a sinful nature. In consequence all mankind are now sinners by choice; and therefore under just condemnation of God and without excuse.

Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Ro 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

    Ro 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Ga 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

  7. Of the Virgin Birth
I believe Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Ghost in a miraculous manner; born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever or can ever be born.

    1. He is God in the Flesh, both the Son of God, and God, the Son.

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Mt 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

  8. Of the Atonement for Sin
I believe the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace; through the death, burial and resurrection of the Son of God.

    1. He lived a perfect and sinless life, and by His death made a full and vicarious atonement for our sins;
    2. Then on the 3rd day having physically risen from the dead, he later ascended to heaven where he is at the right hand of the throne of God, as our all-sufficient Savior.

      Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Ro 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin

Lu 18:33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

  9. Of Grace in the New Creation
I believe in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; it is instantaneous action where the sinner is made  partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life; Brought about repentance toward God and faith toward the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Acts 20:21Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

  10. Of the Freeness of Salvation
    I believe in God’s electing grace; the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel; it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a cordial, penitent and obedient faith; and nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the gospel;

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ro 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  11. Of Justification
I believe the work of Christ secures the believers Justification; Justification includes the pardon of sin, and the gift of eternal life on principles of righteousness; it is bestowed not in consideration of any works of righteousness which I have done; but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s blood, His righteousness is imputed unto us.

Ro 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Ro 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Ro 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Ro 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

  12. Of Repentance and Faith
I believe Repentance and Faith are solemn obligations, and also inseparable graces, wrought in us by the Holy Spirit. Repentance is being deeply convicted of our guilt and helplessness, and of the way of salvation by Christ,  turn to God with in contrition, confession and asking for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ and openly confessing Him as our all-sufficient Savior.

Ac 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  13. Of the Church
I believe New Testament Church is a local, visible assembly of scripturally Baptized believers.

    1. A local church has the right to self-government, free of external authority and control.I believe the true mission of the church is found in the Great Commission: First, to make individual disciples; Second, to baptize believers and add them to the church; Third, to teach and instruct as He has commanded.
    2. The offices that may be held within the church are Pastor and Deacon.
    3. The ordinances to be observed in the church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Mt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1Co 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

1Co 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place,

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

  14. Of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
A valid baptism must have 4 things:- Candidate (Saved Individual), Mode (Immersion in the Name of the Father the Son and Holy Ghost), Motive (Obedience to the Lord), Authority (New Testament Baptist Church).

    1. I believe Christian baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, with the authority of the local church; it is prerequisite to membership of a scriptural church
    2. The Lord’s supper is observed with solemn self-examination by the members of a church, who then partake of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine to commemorate together the sacrificial love of Christ.

Ac 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Ac 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

1Co 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

  15. Of the Eternal Security of Believers
I believe all those truly saved are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. As salvation is a work of God, it is a gift given us that cannot be lost by any true believer.

Joh 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

2Ti 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

  16. Of Separation
I believe those saved ought to live holy and separated lives in such a manner as to not bring reproach unto the Lord Jesus Christ. Separation from religious apostacy, worldly lust and sinful pleasures and practise is a command of God.

Ro 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:

2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

  17. Of Civil Government
I believe civil government is of God, for the interests of human society. Authorities are to be prayed for, honoured and obeyed; except only in things opposed to the will of God.

Ro 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Ac 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

    Exodus 18:21-22; 2 Samuel 23:3; Psalm 72:11; Daniel 3:17-18; Matthew 10:28; 22:21; 23:10; Acts 4:19-20; 23:5; Romans 13:7; Philippians 2:10-11; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-14,17

  18. Of The Return of Christ and Related Events
    1. I believe in a pre-millennial, pre-tribulational rapture of New Testament Believers.
    2. I believe after the rapture is followed by the tribulation period of 7 literal years, in the latter stages of which the LORD pours out his wrath upon the earth.
    3. I believe the Lord Jesus Christ will physically return to the earth; bodily, personally and visibly at his 2nd coming, finishing the battle of Armageddon, and instituting his literal earthly millennial kingdom on this earth for 1000 years.

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Ac 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

  19. Of Missions
The command to give the gospel to the world is clear, unmistakable and the responsibility of the Church.

Matthew 28:18-20, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

John 20:21, “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”

Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

  20. Of the Grace of Giving
    1. I believe the bible commands us to tithe and give offerings to our New Testament storehouse, the Local Church.
    2. We are commanded to bring our gifts into the storehouse (common treasury of the church) upon the first day of the week.

1 Corinthians 16:2, “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.”

Leviticus 27:30, “The tithe … is the Lord’s.”

Malachi 3:10, “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
